About Stallards
What makes Stallards your better choice when looking for new photographic products?
At Stallard's we are photographic specialist retailers, not warehouse distribution
centres as some sites are. This means we are face to face with the public everyday in
our stores. We know what you want!
And we know photography - we've been a family owned photographic business for over 25 years.
The digital imaging revolution is really exciting - but there's so much product out
there! It seems a new camera is released or updated - or changes price - every day. We
are here to make purchasing you new camera fun and easy.
We've looked at every camera on the market and come up with a short list of what we
consider to be the best of the best on the basis of design, quality, ease of handling and value for money. Look no further! Check our Product Range
Three generations of Stallards have worked together to form the largest imaging chain in
Tasmania. Still family owned, there are now four stores employing over 45 local staff.
The range of products and services that we offer make us one of the most comprehensive
photographic retailers in Australia - that's why we keep winning those Awards!
So let's find out a little more about the people that make Stallards work....
George Stallard

It all started in 1970 when George Stallard took over the Devonport Camera Centre.
George immigrated from England in 1956 with his wife Jennie and two young sons David and
Peter.
George worked in photographics for Haminex in Sydney, before following his dream and
buying his own business in Devonport, Tasmania.
Peter Stallard
Tragically, George died in 1973, and his young widow Jennie continued to run the business
with the help of eldest son Peter who was working as an accountant at the time.
In 1975 David joined the family business when Stallards opened in Ulverstone. The first non-family
staff member was engaged in 1977 and it was onward and upward from there.
David Stallard
Labs were opened and Stallards joined Camera House in 1981. The business now became known
as STALLARDS CAMERA HOUSE.
Peter is currently on the board of Camera Houses of Australia
and has been past Chairman.

1981 saw the Launceston store open and in 1983 Stallards purchased the Fletchers
Photographics store in Hobart which duly became the fourth store in the Stallards chain.
David is based in the Launceston store, and is also active in Camera House Nationally as a
long time Marketing Committee member.
Mark Stallard
Peter's son Mark Stallard is the third generation of Stallard men to continue the family
tradition in photographics.
Mark, who has literally grown up with a camera in his hand is
based in the Hobart store. Although a young man, his knowledge of cameras is extensive,
particularly the digital range. "Cameras have become pretty high tech equipment now," says
mark. "But in spite of all the new features, photography is simpler than ever, and prices
are fantastic.
Mark is already being sought out as a national speaker, and was asked to lecture on the
marketing of digital cameras at the national 2003 Photo Marketing Australia conference in Melbourne.
Jennie Stallard is still a partner in the business and has celebrated her 80th birthday.
